8th Grade Star of the Week

Happy New Year!
It's good to be back! I've heard of the wonderful time your children had over the Christmas break with family and friends. I look forward to what the rest of the school year and the new 2019 year will bring! Here are a few updates for the next month.
8th Grade Group Photo
This will be taken in full uniform. Please make sure all children come to school with their 8th grade sweatshirt that day.
8th Grade Graduation pictures
This is an all-day event. Students will take portraits in free dress clothing and graduation gowns. Please reschedule any appointments or events for this day. It is the ONLY day that LifeTouch will be on campus to take these pictures. Regardless if you wish to order, a portrait will be taken for the yearbook and school files and the class picture that goes in the school hallway.
This is the one time during the year that our young ladies may wear light and modest make up to school. The administration reserves the right to determine whether make up or dress is inappropriate and may ask students to remove make up or change clothing if it is not appropriate. Dress attire for the free dress photos should also be age-appropriate and modest. No strapless, spaghetti strap, low cut or revealing attire is permitted. A t-shirt or tank top may be brought to change into for the gown pictures, as students will want to avoid wearing bulky items at the neckline to allow the gown and collar to lay flat.
Boys should wear a white dress shirt with a black tie to wear under the gown and the free dress shot. The white dress shirt will also be required for graduation. If your son does not own a white dress shirt, this is the perfect time to purchase one. (Burlington is a great place to find an inexpensive shirt and tie) There are no specific bottoms required for the 8th grade boys, as the portrait for the hallway will be from the chest up. For the free-dress shot, they may wear an outfit of their choice as long as it's handbook compliant.
Stick to what is conservative and appropriate for Catholic school students, and consult the Parent-Student handbook for free dress guidelines.
Order forms will go home with your child’s proofs. There is no order form to be filled out prior to the pictures being taken. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org

High School Update:
All high school applications should have been submitted. **Please make sure to turn in a signed "TRANSCRIPT RELEASE FORM" if you have applied to a Catholic high school. We need a signed form in order to release information to the schools. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
We have two very important, and lucrative, fundraising events coming up for the eighth grade. BOTH of these events require that each student and at least one parent participate. The success of both of these fundraisers requires participation from every student and a parent/adult. Here is some information on both events:
Date and time: Saturday, February 2nd 5:30-9:00
Students and parents will be expected to be at the gym by 5:30. Students will have a chance to eat pizza and relax a little bit before starting to serve the tables. The 8thgrade will keep all the tips they collect in a jar and all the credit will be distributed evenly among the students that are present. Ms. Bolanos and Mrs. Gioukaris will be the two parent coordinators in charge.
In the past, students have made about $1500. If a student and parent are not present, there will be a $56 charge.*
8th Grade Dance:
Date and time: Friday, February, 15th 5:30-until gym is clean
Students and parents will be expected to be at the school by 5:30 to go over important information. 8th grade SJCS students do not need to pay to get in, 7th grade students will pay. Any 8th grader that does not have a parent/adult representative will not be allowed in to the dance.
In the past, the dance has generated over $2500. If a student and parent are not present, there will be a $93 charge.*
Thank you so much for understanding the importance of your involvement in these fundraising activities! I know it is a very busy time for all. With your help, these will be successful events that will help us reach our goals for our 8th grade budget and give our 8th graders a wonderful end to their 8th grade year.
