This is from last year but I just can't bring myself to take it off this page. I shall leave it on our website for your enjoyment.
Last Friday afternoon, the faculty went on a spiritual retreat. These are so important and special to our school! We got reminded of how special and unique Catholic schools are. We are truly blessed to be part of such a great community! I came back early this morning and looked back at some papers I had graded earlier this month. The assignment was entitled “How Does God Reveal Himself to You?” Almost, if not all, of the papers included friends and family but I thought I would share some of the other things your children wrote:
*When the sun is out and shining bright, God’s presence is revealed because God is light and the sun is like a big candle.
*When I got my first Honor Roll in 4th grade.—It made me want to keep on making the Honor Roll, set my goals higher, and feel like I could do anything if I really tried.
*Seeing people pick up after themselves—When I see people littering it irritates me because those people don’t know how to take care of Earth. So, why would they do it if they lived on the Earth? My answer is those people aren’t stewards of God because they are vandalizing the place they live in and it will cause disaster there. People who do put their trash in the trash can are Stewards of God because they care for the Earth.
*People I don’t know kindly smile at me or say “hello” because it shows that there are good people in the world.
* I am thankful for the amazing education I get and that my parents sacrifice for me to go to this school.
*My friends at school—I was very nervous, but they all said hi to me and I felt comfortable with the class. They also showed me around the school and I was afraid that I would get lost, but there it was—my classmates being there! It was like GOD was there for me! (from one of our new students)
*My family’s congratulations for my achievements whenever I get a good score on a test or receive my report card. They are happy for me and motivate me to keep up my good work.
*My grandma is the kindest person ever. She will feed you, help you, and even if she doesn’t know how to help, she will try and make an effort—even if it’s hard.
*My sister’s happiness. My sister is the best. (WOW! God is revealed in another person's HAPPINESS!!!)
*God let me be born to wonderful parents and let me be with great friends.
*The love that is around everybody in our school—I pick this one for last because even though we may get into arguments, we as a family love and respect one another therefore GOD reveals himself through the love we all have as one family and we share that love/bond greatly.
I hope this helps reveal a bit of GOD for you today. May we all continue to count our blessings every day of our lives.
7th Grade Religion Standards
The religious and family life education program for St. John Catholic School offers students a curriculum that intentionally strives from one grade level to the next to build on the cognitive foundations established in the previous years’ programs. Its content serves to inspire and to inform a way of life. Each of these expectations falls under fiver major thematic headings that convey the essential philosophical underpinnings of the entire program.
